ZPEC Passes Pre-qualification for Oil and Gas Field Development and Operations in Libya

2025-05-27

On May 22, ZPEC officially obtained the Operator Qualification for oil and gas blocks issued by the National Oil Corporation of Libya (NOC). Following its acquisition of oil and gas exploration and production qualifications in Kazakhstan, Iraq, and Algeria, the company has achieved another significant breakthrough in expanding its presence in the North African energy market.

In March this year, the National Oil Corporation of Libya (NOC) launched an international public tender for 22 oil and gas blocks. ZPEC successfully passed the qualification review by virtue of its rich project experience and excellent operational performances in the field of oil and gas exploration and development.

The acquisition of this qualification not only verifies ZPEC's exploration and production capabilities in the international market, but also lays a solid foundation for its further expansion into the global energy market. Next, ZPEC will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the relevant oil and gas blocks in accordance with the requirements of the bidding documents issued by the National Oil Corporation of Libya (NOC), and combine with the country's investment environment to seize the opportunity to enter the oil and gas exploration and development field in Libya.

Public information shows that Libya's oil and gas resources are mainly distributed in the Sirte Basin (offshore), Murzuq Basin, and Ghadames Basin. As of 2023, the country's crude oil production was approximately 1.27 million barrels per day, and its natural gas reserves reached 79 trillion cubic feet. In recent years, international energy companies such as Italy's Eni, Spain's Repsol, and OMV have resumed or planned to expand their exploration activities in Libya.
