ZPEC Oil-based Mud Nano Plugging Agent Successfully Applied in Shengli Oilfield

At the beginning of the new year, good news came from Shengli Oilfield. The oil-based mud nano-plugging agent, ZM-MAGICSEAL Y, independently developed by ZPEC’s team of drilling fluid technology experts, achieved success in the plugging work of Boyeping 5 well. Thus, further demonstrating the success of the integration of R&D, production, and application of ZPEC drilling fluid materials as well as further establishing a new stage of ZPEC brand strength.

This construction is the first time that ZM-MAGICSEAL Y has been used in oil-based mud. It has shown a good plugging effect in dealing with the formation of micro-cracks and leakage. In addition to solving the problem of instability of the well wall, it also provides more options and broad market prospects.

The Boyeping 5 Well is a shale oil risk level exploratory well deployed in the Hekou area of Shengli Oilfield Xinjiang, with a designed well depth of 5,495.37 meters. On January 24th, a sudden loss occurred when drilling to 5,140 meters. The well section from 5,140 meters to 5,379.59 meters was cyclically plugged while drilling. During this period, although a variety of plugging materials and plugging slurry were used for cyclic plugging, the effect was not obvious. Leakage continued to occur. On January 26th, the well team finished drilling ahead of schedule when it reached 5,379.59 meters.

On January 28th, Party A planned to conduct an electrical test after the leak was successfully plugged, but the available plugging materials for oil-based mud on the market were very limited and the particle size was too large to enter the micro-cracked stratum to achieve a plugging effect. Party A understood that the particle size distribution of ZPEC's oil-based plugging agent products is wide, especially the micro-nano particles, which can enter the formation and form an effective plugging film. In addition to having a plugging effect, it can also prevent pressure from being transmitted to the formation, reducing the risk of re-leakage caused by the activation pressure. After careful consideration, they finally decided to use the newly developed oil-based mud nano plugging agent and finally achieved a one-time successful plugging through field operations.
