On December 1st, ZPEC’s 2020 Technical Summary Conference was held at the Lingang Base in Shanghai. The conference summarized, analyzed, and discussed the technical highlights, technical difficulties, and technical problems of the 2020 project work and put forward a series of targeted measures.

This meeting was presided over by Jian Lu, ZPEC Group’s Director of Drilling, and the Group’s Directional Wells. Drilling fluids, Completions, Cementing, Logging, and Engineering Technology Departments participated together. Leaders of the Drilling Company’s Technology Department, Mahu Project, Russian companies, and Iraq companies participated in the meeting through online connections. Shanghai Group Chairman Chundi Li, Senior Vice President Huifeng Li, and Chief Engineer Donghai Zhang all delivered important speeches.

Rui Yang, Manager of the Engineering Technology Department, gave an opening speech, briefly summarized the business highlights of the year, and deployed several key tasks for 2021. Afterwards, the representatives of the participating departments made speeches and reported on the key points, difficulties, and breakthroughs of their respective departments in 2020. Everyone spoke actively, praised the highlights of the work, and reflected on the existing problems and deficiencies.

Donghai Zhang, ZPEC Group Chief Engineer, praised the technological breakthroughs of the Sulige, Mahu, and other projects and laid out several work requirements for the new year. First was the standardization of management and prioritization of the system. All units must revise and improve the management system to clarify the scope of responsibilities and business attributions. Second, systematic management must be integrated to give full play to the role of systematic construction. Third, it is necessary to continuously strengthen technical forces, improve technical measures, and prevent major malignant accidents. Fourth, is the necessity to vigorously train professional and technical talents and formulate practical and effective talent development plans, Fifth, all levels of the technical system must continuously improve their technical and management skill levels.

Furthermore, the Group’s Senior Vice President, Huifeng Li, gave a brief instruction, affirmed the achievements of various technical departments during the year, and required all units to pay attention to well-control safety in order to prevent down-hole accidents. He pointed out that under the dual effects of the epidemic and the decline in international oil prices, many projects had been suspended.  But with the mass production of the vaccine at the beginning of 2021, the world economy would gradually recover and 2021 would be a new upswing period for the company, providing hope to achieve good results.

Last but not least, Group Chairman Chundi Li made an important speech. He pointed out that various domestic drilling indicators had improved in 2020. There had been a steady increase in deep complex wells, bit selection, and drilling speed compared with 2019. The Drilling Fluid Branch also made new breakthroughs in scientific research and in markets. It created the ZPEC Technical Service brand. The Russian company had relatively good technical management and well-control measures and their overall production is running smoothly. He proposed that the company should increase its technical research and development efforts, create high value-added technical products, continue to promote the application of new technologies and new processes, and to promote the company's transformation and upgrading to a technology-based enterprise.
