Drilling Speed Increases Again, ZPEC Kazakhstan Tenge Oilfield 415 Well Successfully Completed

2023-04-10

At 17:00 on April 3, 2023, Well 415, drilled by ZPEC Rig 38 Team of ZPEC Tenge Project, was handed over smoothly.

Well 415 is a four section vertical well with a 2,406 meter designed depth. The drilling was started at 17:00 on February 20 and completed at 17:00 on April 3. The total drilling time was 42 days, 16 days earlier than the planned total drilling time. This was 9.31 days ahead of Well 236 and 41.67 days ahead of Well 463 that was drilled by CNPC Western Drilling Company in the same block. Well 415 set a new drilling record the Tenge Oilfield, winning good economic benefits for the company and enhancing ZPEC’s brand image.

Since entering the Tenge Market in 2022, the Tenge Project has successively completed two vertical wells, the second one faster than the first. Although they entered a new market, facing difficulties such as unfamiliar formations and being far away from the base, the Team was not afraid of difficulties and fought bravely. In just over three months, the total drilling time of the first well was reduced from 54.04 days to 42 days, creating a new record for four-section wells drilled in the block.

Since the start of the project, many difficulties were incurred, such as easy necking of the second section, easy leakage of the third section, and the easy collapse of the quicksand layer. In order to solve these issues, the Team actively investigated the data of adjacent wells, optimized the drilling process on site, optimized the drill bits, optimized the drilling plan from the source, prevented accidents from the source, and improved the control process. Thus, the safety of the whole drilling process ensured the successful transfer of a high-quality well. (ZPEC Headquarters/ Zhang Fengwen)
