ZPEC New Plugging Technology Highly Praised by BP in Iraq Rumaila Oilfield

2021-12-23

Recently, the new plugging technology, independently developed by the ZPEC Iraqi Team,  achieved good results during the drilling operation’s seven wells of the BP II Project in Iraq. For small leaks, the “one plug agent to seal the throat” was utilized with good effect and for malignant leaks, they successfully plugged with 2-4 Plugging Agent.  These efforts greatly saved plugging time, shortened the drilling period, improved the competitiveness of technical services, and won high recognition from Party A.

The Rumaila Oilfield is located 50 kilometers West of Basra Province in Southern Iraq. Here, the geological conditions are very complicated with many kinds of lost layers, sulfur-bearing aquifers, and shale collapsed layers. The engineering and technical teams of ZPEC BP Project continued to summarize and explore.  They were finally successful in developing a set of comprehensive supporting technologies for leak prevention and plugging agent for the block, especially for centimeter-level multi-cracks and leaky layers. Even in the case of loss of return, the use of this new technology for plugging can also achieve very good results.

Compared with the old plugging technology, the new developed one has simple and quick preparation, risk-free operation, greatly improved plugging effect, and convenient cleaning in the later stage. It is highly recognized and praised by ZPEC and Party A.
