ZPEC Charters Overseas Flights to Retrieve Stranded Employees Due to COVID19

2020-09-09

After more than 10 hours of long-distance flight, at 10:50 am on August 29th, an Airbus A330, loaded with more than 200 employees of ZPEC Iraq, landed smoothly at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, ZPEC has become the first private company in Shanghai to use chartered flights to retrieve overseas staff. The charter flight was operated by Iraqi Airways.

ZPEC has received strong support from Shanghai leaders, the Municipal Commission of Commerce, the Foreign Affairs Office, the Joint Defense and Joint Control Office, the State Civil Aviation Administration, the Chinese Embassy in Iraq, and other institutions and departments. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, all international flights from Iraq to China have been suspended. Although a few flights resumed in early August, it has been difficult to find a ticket. The company has been doing everything possible to prevent and control the epidemic and to arrange replacements for front-line personnel, while actively seeking charter flight services and commercial flights.  These actions fully reflect ZPEC’s commitment to the concept of "people-oriented and caring for employees". The employees have been working abroad or have been on standby for more than 8 months, so they were extremely excited when they learned that the charter flight was approved.

In order to ensure the health of returnees and to prevent the import of viruses, the company had formulated a thorough charter flight evacuation plan. In accordance with the guidance requirements of the Chinese Embassy in Iraq and Shanghai, it was strictly implemented a series of measures including: isolation and closure, nucleic acid testing, health code tracking, personal protection, etc. On August 28th, under the rigorous and meticulous planning and methodical organization of the Iraqi Company, everyone obeyed the command and the arrangements, overcoming huge difficulties.  They arrived at the Baghdad and Basra Airports as scheduled. In order to express their gratitude, the employees carefully prepared slogans after boarding the plane and shouted out the aspirations of "Thank you for China, thank you ZPEC, let’s go home safely".

At 17:30 on August 28th, local time, the plane took off from Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, stopped at Basra, and then flew directly to Shanghai. When the plane landed safely, there was a burst of cheers in the cabin. The employees said that this experience was unforgettable. As overseas ZPEC employees, through this epidemic, they deeply felt the strength of the country, the warmth of the company, and felt very proud. Subsequently, after strict epidemic prevention and testing, everyone was arranged in batches to be quarantined at hotels for 14 days.

While these employees returned home safely, on the afternoon of August 29th, 25 shift employees of ZPEC Iraq set off from Shanghai and took the return charter flight to work in Iraq. These "most beautiful replacements" will stick to their posts onsite. More than 150 employees of the company guarantee production and, together, they will overcome all difficulties.
