ZPEC Drilling Fluids Provides Services for Iraqi B10 Exploratory Well Project

2020-06-17

On June 12th, the drilling of the ERIDU-9 Well of the B10 Project in Iraq was successfully completed. The ZPEC’s Drilling Fluid Technical Team won high recognition from Party A with its high-quality service and excellent technical capabilities, fully verifying the reliability and selection of the ZPEC Mud Technology System.

The ERIDU-9 Well is the second exploratory well deployed by Party A’s Lukoil in the block. The designed well is 3,235 meters deep, which is 1,000 meters more than the first well. Relying on the advantages of integrated operation, the personnel of the ZPEC B10 Project overcame various problems, ensured smooth and efficient construction, and provided a basis for the subsequent large-scale exploration and development of Lukoil.

The well’s difficulties included instability of hard and brittle shale formations, hydration-easy formations with reduced diameter stuck, and slow under-pressure drilling. Without any reference experience, the Drilling Director of the Group, Lu Jian, the Deputy Drilling Fluid Branch General Manager and Engineer, Wang Lijian, and other technical experts faced difficulties, worked closely with the professional teams of the project, explored with great concentration, and overcame all technical problems in one fell swoop.  The target layer was successfully reached and the core harvest rate was 100%.

The drilling process of Well ERIDU-9 coincided with the spread of the new coronavirus epidemic in Iraq. In order to minimize the impact of the epidemic, the Project Team worked together to control the epidemic and production. The on-site personnel were able to overcome the situation when they were unable to adjust work and leave hours. The difficulties of road blockades and insufficient inventory of material supplies were coordinated, carefully arranged, and meticulously avoided due to the construction plans being formulated in advance.
